Immediate Past President
David Monks is a shareholder with Klinedinst PC. As a member of the firm’s Employment Law Practice Group, he provides a wide variety of employment law services to many different organizations, including assisting clients in developing appropriate employment practices and policies; counseling on matters such as wage and hour issues, termination, and leaves of absence; investigating claims of employee misconduct; and defending all forms of employment litigation in state and federal agencies and courts. David has been an attorney since 1993 and his practice has focused on employment law since 1999. He has achieved Martindale-Hubbell’s highest rating for legal ability and ethical standards, and has been recognized by his peers in the Southern California-San Diego editions of the 2007 and 2008Super Lawyers® which is published by Law and Politics magazine.
David obtained a degree in Spanish at Rutgers University in Spanish in 1986. After working in the real world for several years, he obtained his law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in Baltimore in 1992. Following a year as a law clerk for an appellate court judge in Maryland, David returned to San Diego to begin practicing law.
This year is David’s third year on the board since becoming a member of SD SHRM in 2001. His previous SD SHRM volunteer roles included Conference Co-Chair for the 2002 Annual Conference; member of the Workplace Excellence Awards “A-Team” in 2003; Nominations Co-Chair for the Workplace Excellence Awards from 2004 to the present; and President-Elect in 2006; and President in 2007.
When not working, David enjoys spending time with his family, coaching baseball and softball and reading.
