Scholarship Application Deadline – July 21, 2008

In 1999 San Diego SHRM instituted the “Human Resources Scholarship Program.” This year, two scholarships are available, each in the amount of $2,000, for undergraduate work in the field of human resources management.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must be a member or a dependent child of a member in good standing, of the San Diego Society for Human Resource Management, with a minimum of two years’ membership with the association as of the application deadline. (A dependent child is a natural or legally adopted child or step-child who qualifies as a federal tax exemption to the member.) Alternatively, if the applicant is not a member of San Diego SHRM, he or she must be a resident of San Diego County.

In addition, an applicant must be a high school senior or graduate who plans to enroll, or is already enrolled, in a course of study that emphasizes human resources management at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university.

Awards

The Scholarship Committee will utilize standard recipient selection procedures, including: past academic performance; leadership and participation in school and community activities; work experience; statement of career and educational aspirations and goals; and unusual personal or family circumstances. Financial need will not be considered.

The Committee will award two scholarships of $2,000 each. One scholarship will be granted to a member or dependent child of a member of San Diego SHRM. The other scholarship will be granted to a resident of San Diego County, who is not a member of San Diego SHRM.

Awards are renewable one year on the basis of satisfactory academic performance. Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Application and Deadline

Interested persons must complete an application and mail it, along with a current, complete official transcript of grades, to SD SHRM, P.O. Box 19311, San Diego, CA 92159-0311. The envelope must be post-marked no later than July 21, 2008.
