Join the San Diego SHRM In Transition Group! Meetings are held every second and fourth Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Conference Room at Brandman University.

— San Diego’s job count is up and its unemployment rate is down. But that’s small comfort to thousands of jobless and underemployed residents, especially those in their 40s and 50s, who are still struggling after years of slow economic growth and getting passed over by younger applicants. It’s even worse if they’ve been out of work for a year or more.


That is the reality for the roughly 100 midcareer workers who sought advice from employment experts Saturday morning at San Diego State University in a workshop organized by Rep. Susan Davis, D-San Diego.

"For so many of you it’s just a matter of getting back into the economy and making some changes,” Davis said. "Change can be good.”
