Ban the Box - Limits on Use of Criminal Background Checks, Arrest Records, and Consequences of Failure to Comply

2018 ushered in new laws limiting an employer’s ability to inquire about or make hiring decisions based on an applicant’s criminal history.  This presentation will discuss the requirements of these laws, how they are being implemented and enforced, and what employers need to do to ensure compliance, and avoid costly claims.

Stacy Fode

Ms. Fode focuses her practice on employment litigation and advisement. Arlene R. Yang is Of Counsel at Brown Law Group. Her practice focuses on employment counseling and litigation. Ms.Yang advises companies on employment law issues, including wage and hour matters, reasonable accommodations for disabilities, leave issues, and employment policies. She also specializes in litigation in state and federal court and proceedings before administrative agencies.

 

After law school, Ms. Yang clerked for the Honorable Daniel H. Huyett, 3rd in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Following that, Ms. Yang served as a litigator at the United States Department of Justice and at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. Ms. Yang developed expertise in labor and employment litigation and counseling as an attorney at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security - both at the Transportation Security Administration and at U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
